Interactive Learning Objects for Teaching
Examples of Interactive files for ORVSD Users. We are considering adding interactive Learning Objects like these to the Repository for teachers to link into their courses. Please let us know what you think of them.
Science: Pollution
Science: Global Warming
Health: Food and Diet
English: Child Language
World History: Race and Conflict
Economics: Community Enterprise

From a former SS teacher
Writing as a former SS teacher I would have drooled all over the Economics: Community Enterprise piece.
I could have used some aspects of the World History content; however, (side note) we don't require a comprehensive look (more of a survey look) at World History in Oregon. By no means do that make it less valuable with regards to the need for a more global perspective.

re: Interactive Objects
I have some concerns about the usefulness of some of the Interactive Objects. For instance, the first example of a fraction is a 1/2 pint of beer! Also, I have never before seen the expression, "A fraction is a package of information." This concept is "reinforced" on the assessment.
In the Health section, there are two images that might be confusing for students. One looks like a slice of pie but is apparently supposed to be cheese; another is a tin of sardines or kippers!
While cultural awareness is always a nice goal, these might detract from students' ability to work independently on these activities.
IMO, items placed on the ORVSD site (and especially those we purchase) should have a close connection to Oregon Content Standards.

If you could add an extensive amount of content from the SMART Learning Marketplace, that would be great.
I looked at the fractions, pollution, and global warming examples. Very solid resources, ones that students/teachers could enhance with supplemental demonstrations, for example, to the side of where this material is presented.
